Diving, the adventure that lasts a lifetime!
Belize
Dive with the Whale Sharks. 25 April - 2 May, 2010
Join Scuba Hut of Maryland’s Spring Fling trip to Belize to dive with the whale sharks at the world famous Gladden Spit Marine Reserve. In the spring each year these enormous creatures visit the waters of Gladden Spit on their annual migration. The nutrient filled waters coupled with the fish spawn during the full moon attract these graceful behemoths.
The dates of 25 April to 2 May, 2010 encompasses the period of the full moon for optimum sightings.
Stay three nights at the Mayan Princess Hotel (continental breakfast included), at Ambergris Caye with two days of two tank boat dives with Amigos del Mar Dive Shop.
On Wednesday, 28 April, we will move to Pelican Beach Resort, South Water Caye, where we will stay during our three days of whale shark diving. All meals, and snacks on board the boat, are included on this portion of the trip. Upon completion of our third day of diving at Gladden Spit we return to Ambergris Caye for two more nights at the Mayan Princess and another day of local two tank boat diving.
Diver cost for the ground package (everything but round trip air from BWI) is:
Diver - $1,615/person, double occupancy
Non-diver - $1,450/person, double occupancy
American Airlines, the carrier being used for this trip, does not currently charge for up to 2 checked bags between the US and Belize. This amounts to another $100 savings compared to other airlines.
Diving with the whale sharks at Gladden Spit is strictly controlled by the Belizean government. Dive shops enter an annual lottery to determine days and times of entry to the reserve. Boats are limited to a maximum of 12 divers. Because of these restrictions the number of divers who visit each year is limited. There are no restrictions on the number of non-divers that can go on the trip.
